Santa Monica Pier's Ferris Wheel Goes Dark for Earth Hour

This Saturday, the Santa Monica Pier's dazzling Pacific Wheel, a symbol of joy and vibrant coastal life, will take on a different role: a beacon of environmental awareness. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., the normally brilliantly lit Ferris wheel will "go dark" as part of the 19th annual Earth Hour, joining landmarks across the globe in a powerful display of solidarity for our planet.

For one hour, the 174,000 LED lights that usually illuminate the Pacific Wheel will be switched off, leaving only the wheel-rim safety lights aglow. This symbolic gesture is part of "The Biggest Hour on Earth," a global movement that encourages individuals and communities to switch off their lights and participate in activities that benefit the environment.

A Global Movement, A Local Impact:

The Pacific Wheel will be in good company, joining iconic structures like the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, the Great Wall of China, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, and the Sydney Opera House in this collective effort. Participants are encouraged to use this hour to reflect on their environmental impact and engage in positive actions for the planet.
