This weekend marks the return of the Santa Monica classic! Spend one of the last weekends of summer cheering on runners by the Santa Monica Pier! The event is sold out this year and always draws a crowd, so we’re giving you all the tips and tricks to both watching and running in the race!

There are a number of parking garages in Santa Monica, most of which are lining the pier and 3rd Street Promenade. The race ends steps from the Santa Monica Pier though, so parking in the pier parking lot, or the garages closest to the pier is your best bet. You will have to walk about a mile to get to the starting line, but that’s just a good warm up for the main event!

What does the course look like?

Both the 5K and the 10K races begin at 2600 Barnard Way and finish at the Santa Monica Pier. The 5K course heads down Ocean Avenue and has a turning point at the intersection of Washington Ave, where runners then head back towards the finish line. The 10K course goes in the same direction but the runners turn around at the intersection of San Vincent and 11th Street. The 5K course has one water station, while the 10K has 3 water stations throughout.

What if I want to volunteer?

The run might be sold out, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t looking for volunteers! Volunteers are needed on Saturday, September 9 for Pre-Race Packet Pickup and Sunday, September 10 for the race itself! To sign up as a volunteer, click here!

Where should I watch the race?

If you are going to cheer on the runners, you can find a spot anywhere along the course of the race. The finish line will be the sought after spot to sit, so if you are trying to get a place to cheer by the pier, be sure to get there early!

Is there anything to do after the race?

From 7:00 am to 11:00 am on race day, participants and spectators are invited to Finish Festival at the Santa Monica Pier! Pick up your participant shirt, post-race refreshments, and take team photos to celebrate the race!
