Calling All Optimist Team Racers: 

Sanguinetti Dinghy Regatta Sets Sail This Weekend!

Attention Optimist Team Racers! The California Yacht Club (CYC) is hosting the prestigious Sanguinetti Dinghy Regatta on September 21st and 22nd, 2024, in Marina del Rey, California. This invitational event is your chance to compete against top teams and showcase your skills in a thrilling 2 vs. 2 format.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Who can participate? This is an invitational event for teams sailing International Optimist Dinghy class boats. A maximum of 20 teams will be invited (10 confirmed invitations), and team members don't need to belong to the same yacht club.

  • What's the format? The event features an exciting multiple round robin format with 2 vs. 2 team racing. Depending on time, there might also be mini round robins or knockout matches for added intensity.

  • When is the deadline to register? The deadline to be considered for an invitation is September 1st. If your team gets invited, you'll need to accept by completing online registration and paying fees by September 21st. Don't forget to submit a completed CYC Parental Consent Form and Waiver for each competitor.

  • What's the schedule? Check-in takes place on September 21st between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM, followed by a competitor briefing and the first warning signal at 11:00 AM. The same schedule applies for September 22nd, with an awards presentation wrapping up the event after the final race.

Additional details:

  • The racing area will be within Marina del Rey Harbor, with a designated viewing area for spectators.

  • The course will be a starboard-hand "digital N" course, explained further in the Sailing Instructions.

  • Umpires will be present to ensure fair competition, and teams may be asked to provide a coach for assistance.

  • Team Racing Scoring rules (RRS Appendix D3 and D4) will be used.

  • Safety is paramount. Each competitor must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket and have a whistle attached to it. Boats need a secure bow line loop, and skippers launching from CYC must sign in and out.

  • A designated adult (parent, guardian, etc.) is responsible for each competitor's safety during the event, on and off shore.

  • Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
