Playa Vista is one of the newest and trendiest neighborhoods in Silicon Beach. Built in 2002, the neighborhood has blossomed into the home large tech companies and small businesses alike. It is known for its sense of community—making it the perfect place to buy a home.
History of Playa Vista
Playa Vista was developed as a mix of affordable and luxury housing, offices and commercial space. The development was built right next to a restored wetland and wildlife conservation. It was one of the six communities that president Bill Clinton selected in 1998 as a National Pilot Project of the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH). Because of this, Playa Vista is one of the most technologically advanced communities ever planned. It was also constructed as a model green environment—with energy saving systems throughout the neighborhood.
Tech Companies that Reside in Playa Vista
Playa Vista has quickly become home to many tech companies looking for space in a trendy and tech friendly community. In January of 2015, Yahoo signed a long-term lease for about 130,000 square-feet at the new Collective campus in Playa Vista— bringing 400 jobs to the neighborhood.
Yahoo is just the latest company to move to Playa Vista. Prior to Yahoo’s move, Google spent $120 million dollars on 12 vacant acres—vastly more space than Google currently has in Los Angeles. Microsoft Corp. also opened a roughly 20,000-square-foot space in Playa Vista in 2013 to house 130 employees. Facebook also has commercial space near by.
