Southern California is making waves and we aren’t talking about surfing. We are talking about the start up companies that are making Southern California home, and driving businesses out of San Francisco. 

There are so many reasons why startup and tech companies are moving from Silicon Valley to Silicon Beach. The weather, the price, the people—all of it is appealing enough that some of the biggest companies in the world call it home. 

Companies like Google, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook already call Silicon Beach their home. While companies like Apple and LinkedIn are rumored to be looking for a place to settle into near the sandy beaches of SoCal. But there are companies in Silicon Valley with just as much clout as the big guys in Silicon Beach, so what makes the beach so appealing to these tech companies?

Well, first of all, real estate is far less expensive here than in Silicon Valley. Apartment prices average out around $2500 to $3000 a month for a simple and small place in Silicon Valley. Where as the luxury type apartments of the same size go for a similar price here in Silicon Beach.

Another great factor for living in Silicon Beach is the actual beach. There is a very specific lifestyle that comes with living in Southern California near the water, and if that is something that is appealing to you, then it’s not a bad idea to move your business to Silicon Beach instead.

There is also a star factor that comes with living so close to LA and it’s surrounding neighborhoods. There is a lot of power and money that comes along with having celebrity investors and sponsors and it’s easier to get those when you are living within close proximity to the stars.

Businesses are thriving in Southern California. LA now has over 18 accelerators, 30 incubators, along with various tech studios and hacker spaces, all spread across the beach, and Silicon Beach is growing by the day. Only you know if it’s the right move for your business and your lifestyle, but don’t let the name “Silicon Valley” dictate where you begin your start up. Silicon Beach is proving to be the next great place to start a business, so if sun, sand and surf appeals to you and your lifestyle, then Silicon Beach is probably the place for you and your new company.
