Black Friday 2020: Local Businesses

Black Friday 2020: Local Businesses

2020 has been a year of innovation. With the Covid-19 pandemic, people and businesses alike have had to alter their plans. Restaurants have turned parking lots and sidewalks into inviting outdoor eateries. Major companies like Google and Facebook have required their employees to begin working from home, transforming dining rooms and backyards into office spaces. Shops have also had to adapt, moving their merchandise online or enforcing face masks and social distancing within their stores.

Now that the holiday season is right around the corner, people are starting to wonder how the pandemic will impact significant events like Black Friday. Thankfully, many businesses have already begun to plan unique ways to keep the excitement of Black Friday alive and well. You can always find big companies selling their products at Black Friday prices online--but what about local businesses? In times like these, supporting local businesses is especially important, so we have gathered a list of a few local shops that you might consider for your Black Friday needs!

1. Late Sunday Afternoon

Late Sunday Afternoon creates hand-made products using only local materials. In addition to their sustainability efforts, the business also gives back to the local Los Angeles community by providing handcrafted blankets to children in Foster Care. Community members can purchase blankets of their own or browse an assortment of apparel items, including clothes and hats. Their Super Gratitude sale continues until Thanksgiving and includes discounts on all apparel items, including bandanas, scarves, and ascots! While this is not quite a Black Friday sale, there are discounted prices and no flustered feeling that may come with a one-day sale. Shoppers can order on their website. Be sure to use the correct promotion code at checkout: THANKS50 - 50% off Bandanas, THANKS40 - 40% off scarves, THANKS30 - 30% off ascots, THANKS20 - 20% off apparel.

2. Giggles LA

Giggles LA is a children’s boutique and ultrasound center. Their products range from bibs and onesies to toys and toddler tools. They have a wide selection of books, many focusing on real-world concepts like identity and female empowerment. Their Black Friday sales will include discounts on diaper bags, toys, and books. You can shop in-store, but they are providing a free goodie for those who do curbside pickup! They will also participate in Cyber Monday. Check out their website and start building your wish list now!

3. CAMI AND JAX

CAMI AND JAX is a sister-created luxury swimwear collection that aims to redefine beauty standards and remind women that being bold and powerful is beautiful. In the five years their Santa Monica storefront has been open, they have provided consistently high quality and high comfort swimwear. Even celebrities like Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lopez lounge around in CAMI AND JAX swimwear! For their Black Friday sale, all swimsuits are 30% off. Be sure to shop safely and bring a mask! You can purchase your new swimsuit on their website as well.

4. Urbanic Paper Boutique

Urbanic is a vibrant stationery shop dedicated to bettering people’s days.
