Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. This year, celebrate Juneteenth in Los Angeles with a variety of events honoring Black culture, history, and resilience.

  • Dive into history at the Los Angeles Public Library's Maps & Memories: Reflections on Juneteenth. View historical maps and create a personalized memory book celebrating the holiday. (Saturday, June 15th)

Laugh and Learn:

  • Get a head start on the celebrations with Kickoff Juneteenth Comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade. Enjoy stand-up routines and stories inspired by Juneteenth, featuring special guest Mayor Karen Bass. (Friday, June 14th)

Family Fun at Festivals:

  • Immerse yourself in the vibrant Juneteenth celebrations at multiple festivals across the city:

    • Black in Mayberry's Juneteenth Festival (Saturday, June 15th) offers live music, art activities, kids' zone, and Black-owned vendors.

    • Black on the Block's Juneteenth Festival (Sunday, June 16th) features live music by Flyana Boss and DVSN, along with a food court, vendors, and activities.

Sports and Entertainment:

  • Cheer on Angel City FC as they celebrate Juneteenth while taking on Racing Louisville FC.

  • Witness a unique musical experience at the Hollywood Bowl with T-Pain's Juneteenth Celebration. This special event features Black music and a full orchestra.
