The 4th of July is this Friday, and our Westside communities are gearing up for some truly special celebrations! From morning runs and lively parades to spectacular evening shows, there's no shortage of ways to celebrate right here in our own backyard. Here's your local guide to making the most of July 4th on the Westside:
Pacific Palisades: A Show of Resilience and Community Spirit
Our beloved Pacific Palisades community, demonstrating incredible resilience after the recent fires, is ready to host its 78th annual July 4th Celebration. This year, things will look a little different, but the spirit remains stronger than ever!
The main evening celebration will take place at the six-acre athletic field of Paul Revere Charter Middle School. Organized by the Palisades Americanism Parade Association (PAPA), this event is a heartfelt effort to unite Palisadians in a show of community strength. You can expect:
-
Evening Celebration: Live music, family-friendly entertainment, engaging children’s activities, and over 20 delicious food trucks will create a festive atmosphere.
-
Spectacular Drone Show: Instead of traditional fireworks, the sky will light up with an amazing drone show, a modern and dazzling display that's sure to awe.
-
Hometown Charm: Select participants from the traditional morning parade will join the evening festivities, preserving that unique Palisades hometown feel we all cherish.
-
For Locals, By Locals: This event is exclusive to Palisadians, their friends, and family, requiring complimentary tickets with advance registration (which began in June). It's a special opportunity for neighbors to reconnect, reflect on the community's recovery, and look forward to the future together.
While volunteers have balanced rebuilding efforts and personal recoveries with planning this cherished tradition, their dedication ensures this celebration offers a chance to return stronger and more united than ever.
In the morning, the Palisades Will Rogers 5K Run and Kids Fun-Run will take place in nearby Venice, continuing a beloved local tradition. Keep an eye on palisades4th.com for more information.
Santa Monica: Honoring Our Community Heroes
Just down the coast, Santa Monica is ready for its annual July 4th Parade, a free, family-friendly event that promises a vibrant start to your Independence Day.
-
Community Heroes: This year, the parade proudly honors our community heroes and first responders from the pandemic years: healthcare, public safety, and food service workers. It's a wonderful opportunity to show our gratitude!
-
Parade Route: The parade kicks off promptly at 9:30 AM at Pico and Main Street, traveling south on Main Street before turning right onto Marine and ending at Barnard Way. Find your favorite spot anywhere along Main Street to watch the floats, marching bands, and community groups make their way to Beach Lot 5 South. The official grandstand announcement location will be in front of the Ocean Park Library.
-
Details: The parade runs until approximately 12:00 PM. For more information, visit santamonicaparade.com. Discussions are also underway to potentially include Palisadian representatives, further uniting our Westside communities in celebration.
Marina Del Rey: A Dazzling Waterfront Spectacle
As evening approaches, head south to Marina Del Rey for one of the most spectacular July 4th Fireworks Shows on the Westside!
-
Synchronized Display: At 9:00 PM, prepare for a breathtaking 20-minute fireworks display over the water, perfectly synchronized to patriotic music.
-
Best Viewing Spots: The fireworks are launched from a barge in the Main Channel, making them viewable from almost anywhere in Marina Del Rey, including popular spots like Burton Chace Park and Fisherman's Village. You can even catch glimpses from the Venice Pier, Playa Vista, and Dockweiler Beach.
-
Getting There Early: As with any popular fireworks event, expect heavy traffic and plan to arrive early to secure your preferred viewing spot. Many people bring picnics and blankets to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
This July 4th, our Westside communities are truly coming together to celebrate freedom, resilience, and the strong bonds that make our neighborhoods so special. We encourage you to get out there, enjoy the festivities, and connect with the spirit of our amazing towns!
