There are flea markets and art galleries galore in southern California, but there is only one Artists & Fleas and its returns April 1st. Artists & Fleas opened in 2014, bringing a unique market to Downtown LA’s emerging Arts District. With it’s recent success, Artist & Fleas opened a second location at the Westminster Avenue Elementary School in Venice.
What is Artists & Fleas?
Artists & Fleas is a mash up of art and craft shows, fairs and venerable flea markets. It is a community event that showcases art, design and fashion alongside a selection of vintage and upcycled merchandise.
What makes this market so successful?
It married two of the most popular things in Los Angeles, flea markets and art. Craft fairs, food trucks, and flea markets are located in every spare lot on weekends in Los Angeles, so combining the bunch makes for a successful endeavor.
Who are the vendors?
Vendors differ from week to week, but they include everything from apparel to art to food. List below are the vendors you might expect to see from week to week at one of the two locations.
· Beautiful Things LA: Known for their Bluebird Bus storefront, this traveling LA-based business sells jewelry and accessories.
· Brown Bag Books: Their slogan “cool books… cheap” pretty much says it all.
· Coast to Coast: They sell vintage clothes from a 1976 Serro Scotty named Babygirl… enough said.
· Falasophy: All of that shopping can make you hungry. That’s when Falasophy, a Falafel and Humus bar, starts to come in handy. You can get everything from a classic falafel on pita to the ultimate hummus bowl.
· The Creature Den: They specialize in individually handcrafted animal-inspired decorative pieces that are also functional.
· Infinite Expression: Specialzing in finding limited and one of a kind clothing, Infinite Expression helps you create a truly unique style.
· Janjoon Jewelry: Spider webs, Greek mythology, and architecture are just a few of the things that inspire this designer to create one of a kind handmade jewelry that could easily double as art.
· Cowpunk Leather: The only place in Artists and Fleas to find handmade leather belts, wallets, guitar straps and more.
· World By Hand: They bring handmade art from across the world to your town.
· Panik Rider: A traveling boutique with designs hand picked by truck owner Pann.
