It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and forget what they are really about. This year, we’re trying to make it a little easier to donate, whether that be goods, your money, or your time!
Below is a list of some of the places you can donate to this holiday season in Silicon Beach!
The Salvation Army of Southern California provides a vast range of services to youth, the homeless, veterans, seniors, addicts and more. Each year the Salvation Army breaks out their little red kettles and their accompanying bells, where you can donate money to the cause! If you don’t stumble upon the red kettle, but still would like to donate you can give to the Online Red Kettle, or make a donation by phone by calling 1-800-Sal-Army.
If you don’t have money to give, don’t worry! The Salvation Army has plenty of Family Stores throughout Southern California. These stores accept clothing, furniture, appliances, and even cars. To find a Family Store, call 1-800-95-TRUCK or visit SAtruck.com. If you have a large donation, the Salvation Army truck will even pick the donation up at your home. If its time you have to spare this holiday season, the Salvation Army is also signing up volunteers.
Located in Skid Row, the most needy part of LA, Los Angeles Mission allows you to give directly to those who need it the most.
Los Angeles Mission (LAM) offers you unique ways to give back throughout the holiday season. LAM’s Annual Thanksgiving celebration is a wonderful way to serve up plates of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans and more to those in need. For Christmas, LAM holds their annual Christmas dinner for the families of Skid Row. Lines wrap around the block as families enjoy a winter wonderland with meals, toys, shoes and healthcare. Each event is truly something worth seeing. To volunteer your time, money, or goods, visit www.losangelesmission.org/.
Make the holidays a bit happier for children who have gone through more in their little lives than most of us have in a lifetime. The Holidays from the Heart program aims to spread a little joy to chronically ill children and their families. You can sponsor a family, provide necessities such clothing and diapers, making a monetary donation, or serve as a volunteer. For more details on how to help, click here!
