The most unique sporting event in all of California takes place next weekend and it is something that you won’t want to miss! The Red Bull Soapbox Race is a sight to be seen, and is easily one of the wildest legal street racing around. Say good bye to bumper to bumper traffic, and watch as the little cars race through Elysian Park.
“Seventy teams will be selected to compete in this human-powered racing event, encouraging gear heads and adrenaline junkies alike to break out their toolboxes and build outrageous non-motorized soapboxes designed to thrill the masses,” the website boasts.
Each of the cars are handmade and fueled by creativity. Not to mention the faster the car goes, the better! Boxcar racing has been around since 1934, attracting generations to watch, build, and drive the little machines. Red Bull has only been hosting races since the year 2000, but that doesn’t mean this is an amateur race. They have held more than 100 soapbox races around the world since their first one in Brussels – from Australia to South Africa, Helsinki to St. Louis, Jamaica to Italy.
A jury of local celebrities who know a thing or two about soapbox races judges each Competition. This year, Alex Caruso, Joey Brezinski, Mikey Garcia, Patty Rodriguez, Mike "Hucker" Clark will be deciding who takes home the prize!
The race will take place at on Angels Point Road in Elysian Park on August 20th at 10:00 AM. Parking will be provided free of cost at Dodger Stadium with a short complimentary shuttle service to the park.
