One of the most underrepresented minorities in the film industry is the American Indian, and the Red Nation Film Festival (RNFF) is working to overcome that. Coined “The Authentic Voice of American Indian & Indigenous Cinema,” RNFF is dedicated to breaking the barrier of racism by successfully replacing American Indian stereotype with recognition, new vision, arts, culture and economic prosperity. They do this by placing American Indian Filmmakers at the forefront of the entertainment industry and by introducing American Indian Filmmakers to larger, global mainstream audiences.

The Festival features the only film competition in the world that guarantees the distribution of independent films created by American Indian and Indigenous People. RNFF brings together decision makers and content creators with the goal of ensuring media representation of American Indian & Indigenous content globally.

The competition in broken down into the following categories: documentary films, feature-length films and short films. There is also a group of out-of-competition sections, including: The Native Film Market™, The Pitch, Retrospectives, Red Nation Conversation Series™, and RNFF On the Road™ Tour in Santa Fe NM, Washington DC., and Peru.

RNFF takes place annually in Los Angeles, during the month of November in celebration of American Indian Heritage Month.  With 1500+ attendees, it is the largest independent native film festival in Los Angeles.
